Toronto City Council is about to finally vote on its 2018 City Budget. Sadly, it falls short of addressing the real problems facing this city. With over 100,000 families and households on the housing waiting list, residents wait-listed for 200,000 recreation program spots, and millions of commuters waiting for reliable transit, we know we can do better.
Thanks to months of organizing across Toronto - and the strong voices of hundreds of residents — Councillors have agreed to reverse-course and include some of the funding of their short-term commitments, but we are nowhere near closing the gap for so many residents.
That's why we need your help as we deliver our petition to City Council: Help us pack the City Hall chambers to let our City Council know that we want investments - and real improvements - in transit, housing, and good jobs.
Please note: There will be a housing rally at 9:00 am in Nathan Phillips Square. Feel free to attend.
9:15 am convene inside City Hall on the main floor. We will be distributing wearables (buttons or patches) to be worn in the Council chambers. No signs are permitted.
9:30 am Council begins
We're asking for attendees to stay as long as possible, ideally past 10:30 am.
We ask all participants to be respectful of the Council proceedings.
